HENRICO, Va. — The race in Virginia’s First Congressional District remains one of the most hotly contested of this election cycle. Yesterday, Shannon Taylor, Henrico County’s top prosecutor and candidate for Congress in Virginia’s First Congressional District, joined The Lead with Jake Tapper to lay out the case against Rob Wittman and her plan to root out corruption in Washington and lower costs.

“Everywhere I go across this district, whether it be the suburbs of my county or the Historic Triangle area, or the Northern Neck part of this district, there are two things I continue to hear. Everyone is terrified about the rising cost of living: food, gas, energy. And they are also mad as heck about the corruption in D.C. And voters see that direct corruption is why costs keep going up,” said Shannon Taylor. “The reality is people see politicians like Rob Wittman getting rich, and they’re paying more. That perception is reality. That’s what I want to fix.”

Recent polling finds the race between Shannon Taylor and Rob Wittman is a true toss up, with major momentum building behind Shannon. A Washington Post-Schar School poll today found Taylor leading Wittman 50% to 46%. The Cook Political Report recently shifted its rating from Lean Republican to Toss Up. Sabato’s Crystal Ball also rates the race a Toss Up.
